Building a Connected Life and Health Platform

How a leading New Zealand insurer extended an established health portfolio into life insurance through a single connected platform.

This case study shows how a leading New Zealand insurer used AMS Protego to extend from health into life insurance while creating a more connected experience for advisers, customers and operational teams. The initiative combined product launch, platform integration and process change, giving the insurer a scalable foundation for future growth across Life and Health.

The Opportunity

A leading New Zealand insurer moved to extend its established health portfolio with a new Life & Living product. The strategic intent was a more connected experience for advisers and customers, uniting Life and Health within one cohesive proposition.

Having already migrated to AMS Protego, the insurer had a strong platform foundation for launching its new Life & Living offering. That earlier decision shaped the initiative, allowing the focus to move beyond core administration and towards a more connected adviser, customer and operating experience.

Working Together

Bringing the product to market required more than product configuration. Life and Health policy information needed to connect across the insurer's wider technology environment, advisers needed a more complete view of the customer, and compliance requirements had to be embedded from the outset. The solution also needed to support digital adviser processes, enable straight-through applications and automated underwriting, assist operational teams and improve customer engagement.

AMS partnered with the insurer and its third-party providers to deliver a solution that brought together policy administration, customer information and operational processes.

Building on the AMS Protego platform, the initiative enabled the full Life & Living product lifecycle: new business processing, underwriting, billing, claims, policy administration and adviser remuneration.

Integration was a central deliverable of the initiative. AMS established further integration between AMS Protego and a leading CRM, creating a single view of customer and policy information across Life and Health products. Integration also extended to the adviser portal and a third-party underwriting engine, connecting quoting, application and underwriting into one continuous workflow.

The result was a unified experience that gave advisers and operational teams access to the information they needed at the right point in the process. AMS and the insurer worked in close partnership throughout, combining deep insurance expertise, technology capability and a shared commitment to practical outcomes for advisers, customers and internal stakeholders.

The Outcome

The insurer successfully launched its Life & Living product suite to the adviser channel, extending its market proposition beyond health and creating a connected foundation for Life and Health growth.

Through the adviser portal integration, advisers can now quote, submit applications and track progress of underwriting through a single digital journey rather than moving across disconnected systems.

The project delivered a connected platform supporting both Life and Health products. It helped advisers work more effectively and gave the insurer a scalable foundation for future growth.

The delivery also strengthened integration across the insurer's technology environment, bringing policy administration, customer information and reporting capabilities together in support of a more connected operating model.

Looking Ahead

For this insurer, the initiative was about more than launching a new product. It established a connected Life and Health proposition that made it easier for advisers to support customers and gave the business a stronger foundation for future growth.

AMS worked alongside the insurer to bring together the people, processes and technology required to turn that ambition into a practical, working platform.
