Insights from the Volaris Shared Services Conference
At the recent Volaris Shared Services Conference in Vienna, over 200 Vertical Market Software businesses came together to network, exchange knowledge, and share best practices. AMS's Technical Operations Manager, Chris Smith, joined 54 IT professionals from across the Volaris network to discuss data security. The event also included representatives from legal and other key departments, creating a collaborative platform for discussing insights and aligning practices across all business units.
Here are some of the strategic takeaways from the conference:
Knowledge is Power, Especially when it’s Global
The conference discussion emphasised the importance of knowledge sharing. Volaris fosters significant collaboration between the various businesses under its umbrella via regular meet-ups and through its communication channels. Being able to tap into the collective wisdom of hundreds of IT professionals across the globe is an invaluable resource for AMS.
As Chris Smith explains,
“It’s quite unusual to share knowledge and experiences so openly in the IT world – through Volaris we have a network that we can communicate with regularly and learn from, as well as being able to utilise a greater number of security tools.”
This way of operating works to enhance the overall security posture of the entire organisation, and ensures future-proofing and best practice at every step.
Learning from the Past
A portion of the conference was dedicated to reviewing security topics that businesses experience. It’s uncommon to have such open discussions about security, and these overviews provided invaluable lessons. They were a reminder of the importance of having robust security measures in place, which reassuringly AMS does.
Back to Basics - Focusing on the Fundamentals of IT Data Security
It’s well reported that the majority of security breaches begin with something as simple as clicking on an email. Amid discussions about advanced security technologies, the conference emphasised a return to basics in IT Data Security (ITDS).
It’s easy to get caught up in the allure of the latest and most sophisticated security solutions, but the discussion reminded everyone of the importance of ensuring that the fundamental aspects of ITDS are not overlooked.
AMS has robust security training and testing in place, that help focus on these basics. This ensures that AMS maintains a secure foundation on which to provide a cloud platform that continues to deliver one of the highest standards of security on the market.
Sharing Strategies and Pain Points
All Volaris organisations undertake a Quarterly Data Security Review (QDSR) and was another key discussion point. The Quarterly Review provides a regular opportunity for businesses to review their security posture, identify common pain points and outline best practices to further improve their security strategies. It was a reminder to all that a company’s security needs are constantly evolving, and such reviews are crucial to keep ahead of new security threats and technologies.
Future Readiness
The conference discussions highlighted the need for Volaris’s businesses to be prepared to handle current threats and also strategically positioned to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
AMS’s recent completion of its BCP (Business Continuity Planning) annual test, is an example of this. The company undertook a full Disaster Recovery Failover for a week, where it operated successfully, with a subsequent fail back the following week, proving both systems and procedures are working as they should be.
Looking Ahead, AMS’s Future State
The Volaris Shared Services Conference, was a vital step in strengthening the data security framework across the Volaris network. By focusing on collaboration, reinforcing ITDS basics, and sharing strategies through QDSR, AMS is well-positioned to face the future and ensure it continually evolves security practices to operate a secure and resilient IT environment.
